Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management Implementation

Inventory, warehouse and transportation, procurement, master planning and production on Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, designed around how your goods actually move, extended in X++ where needed and connected to Finance, Commerce and Customer Engagement by one Solzet team.

Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management is Microsoft's operations application within finance and operations apps, covering inventory, warehouse and transportation management, procurement and sourcing, master planning, manufacturing and production, product information, asset management and service management. Solzet implements Supply Chain Management for manufacturers and distributors whose operations have outgrown simpler systems: we map how goods, orders and production really flow, configure the modules around that, migrate items, bills of materials and stock, build X++ extensions only where configuration runs out, and connect it to Dynamics 365 Finance, Commerce and Customer Engagement. Warehouse staff get processes they can follow on a scanner, and planners get numbers they can act on.

What does Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management cover?

Supply Chain Management is the operations half of finance and operations apps, sharing one platform with Dynamics 365 Finance so that every receipt, pick and production order posts to the ledger without a nightly file. Microsoft documents these areas as part of it:

  • Inventory management: items, dimensions, on-hand, counting and costing.
  • Warehouse management and transportation management, from receiving to loading.
  • Procurement and sourcing, from requisition to vendor invoice.
  • Master planning, turning demand into planned purchase, transfer and production orders.
  • Manufacturing and production, with bills of materials and routes.
  • Product information management for released and shared products.
  • Asset management for equipment maintenance.
  • Service management for service orders and agreements.

How does Solzet implement Supply Chain Management?

We walk the floor before we open the configuration. Discovery follows real flows end to end: purchase to receipt to put-away, sales order to pick, pack and ship, demand to plan to production order, and the exceptions the team handles on paper today. Each flow becomes a documented process with the people who run it, and the configuration is built and demonstrated flow by flow on your own items and locations.

New cloud implementation projects for Finance, Supply Chain Management and Project Operations are created in the Power Platform admin center since 16 February 2026, so environment planning starts there. Warehouse processes get their own test cycle with real devices and real labels, because a mobile process that looks fine in a meeting room can still stall a loading dock at six in the morning.

  • Process discovery on the floor, in the warehouse and with planners.
  • Item, site, warehouse and location design, including dimensions and costing method.
  • Flow-by-flow configuration with demos on your own data.
  • Warehouse and mobile process testing with real devices and labels.
  • Planning parameters tuned with planners before go-live, not after the first shortage.
  • Cutover by site or warehouse where the business needs a phased start.

Is Business Central or Supply Chain Management right for your operation?

Business Central fits small and mid-sized companies that want finance, inventory, projects and light manufacturing in one cloud system. Finance and Operations fits larger organizations with several legal entities, deep supply chain or production needs, or retail operations on Commerce. Solzet implements both, so the table is a starting point for the conversation rather than a sales script. Manufacturers will find the industry view on our manufacturing page, and the Business Central side is described on our Business Central implementation page.

How do you migrate items, bills of materials and stock?

Supply chain data migration fails on master data, not on volumes. Item numbers that mean two things, units of measure nobody agrees on, bills of materials that exist only in an engineer's spreadsheet, and locations that are real on the floor but not in the system all have to be fixed before the load, or the new system inherits them. We run a master data cleanup with the owners first, then load items, vendors, bills of materials, routes and open orders in rehearsals.

On-hand stock is loaded last, from a count close to cutover, and reconciled by quantity and value with finance. If the source is Dynamics AX, our AX to Finance and Operations upgrade page explains the route by version. Once the data is clean, planning becomes worth tuning: our article on the inventory optimisation work in Supply Chain Management that mid-market manufacturers often leave out.

When do warehouse and production processes need X++ extensions?

Configuration covers more of Supply Chain Management than most teams expect: warehouse rules for where stock goes and how work is created, mobile menus, production parameters and planning settings do much of what older systems needed code for. We write X++ when a requirement is stable and configuration cannot meet it, such as a customer-specific label, an interface to a weighing station or automated storage system, or a validation that stops bad data from an integration reaching inventory.

Finance and operations development is done in X++ with the Visual Studio extension, and the unified developer experience brings finance and operations and Power Platform developer tools together. Our extensions live in source control, go through a build pipeline and carry a purpose note and an owner, so the warehouse does not depend on one developer's memory.

How does Supply Chain Management connect to Finance, Commerce and Customer Engagement?

Finance comes with the platform: Supply Chain Management and Dynamics 365 Finance are both finance and operations apps, so inventory and production transactions reach the ledger without a separate interface, and the stock value finance reports is the stock value the warehouse sees. Retailers add Dynamics 365 Commerce, which runs stores and online channels on the same product and inventory data. Carriers, EDI with large customers, suppliers' portals and shop floor systems each get an agreed interface with monitoring.

Sales and service teams on Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement need stock, order and delivery status without asking the warehouse. Dual-write is an out-of-box infrastructure that provides near-real-time, bidirectional integration between customer engagement apps and finance and operations apps through Dataverse, and virtual tables expose finance and operations data in Dataverse without copying it. Solzet builds the Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement side too, and our CRM and ERP integration page sets out how we design the link.

Who is this for, and who is it not for?

This service is for manufacturers and distributors with several sites or legal entities, real warehouse complexity, production with bills of materials and routes, or planning that has outgrown spreadsheets. Typical sponsors are operations directors, supply chain managers and CIOs who need the warehouse, the planners and finance working from the same numbers. The overview of the product family is on the Finance and Operations page.

It is more system than a single-site company with simple stock and light assembly needs. That company is usually better served by Business Central, which Solzet implements with the same team and the same care for warehouse processes. If you are already live and the warehouse or planning is struggling, Solzet can audit your existing project and give you a stabilisation plan through our health check and technical audit.

What does Solzet deliver, and how is support handled?

One team runs discovery, design, configuration, X++ development, data migration, integrations, testing and cutover, and the same people support the system afterwards. For Microsoft partners who need supply chain consultants or X++ developers inside their own project, Solzet delivers white-label through our subcontracting service.

  • Documented end-to-end flows for purchasing, warehouse, sales fulfilment, planning and production, signed by the process owners.
  • Configured Supply Chain Management environments with a documented release process.
  • Master data cleanup and migration with quantity and value reconciliation.
  • Warehouse mobile processes tested on real devices, with labels and documents.
  • X++ extensions and integrations in source control, each with an owner and monitoring.
  • Training per role, a cutover runbook, hypercare on the floor after go-live and an agreed support model.

What do buyers ask us?

What does Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management include?

Microsoft documents inventory, warehouse and transportation management, procurement and sourcing, master planning, manufacturing and production, product information, asset management and service management as part of Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.

Does Solzet implement Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management?

Yes. Solzet implements Dynamics 365 Business Central and Finance and Operations, alongside Customer Engagement and Power Platform. We handle implementation, extensions in AL and X++, migrations from Dynamics NAV, Dynamics GP, Dynamics AX and 1C, the Business Central Armenian localization, and the integration between your CRM and ERP. Supply Chain Management is delivered by our own consultants and developers.

Business Central or Supply Chain Management for a manufacturer?

Business Central fits small and mid-sized manufacturers with standard inventory and light manufacturing. Supply Chain Management, part of finance and operations apps, fits larger manufacturers with several sites or legal entities, complex warehouses, or production and planning that need more depth. Solzet implements both and recommends after walking through your flows.

Where is a new Supply Chain Management cloud project created?

Since 16 February 2026, new cloud implementation projects for Finance, Supply Chain Management and Project Operations are created in the Power Platform admin center instead of Lifecycle Services. Solzet sets up the environments there at the start of the project.

Can Supply Chain Management share stock and order data with Dynamics 365 Sales?

Yes. Dual-write provides near-real-time, bidirectional integration between customer engagement apps and finance and operations apps through Dataverse, and virtual tables let Sales users read stock and order data without copying it. Solzet designs the CRM side, the ERP side and the integration together.

Can you go live one warehouse or site at a time?

Yes, when the business benefits from it. A phased start by site or warehouse lowers the risk on the first go-live, at the cost of running temporary interfaces to the old system for a while. We set out both options with their trade-offs during design so you choose with the facts in front of you.

What should we clean up before migrating to Supply Chain Management?

Master data: item numbers, units of measure, bills of materials, routes, vendors and warehouse locations. Volumes are rarely the problem; ambiguous master data is. We run the cleanup with the data owners before the first rehearsal and load on-hand stock last, from a count close to cutover.
