Dynamics 365 Finance Implementation
Dynamics 365 Finance for larger and multi-entity organizations: general ledger, payables, receivables, budgeting, cash and bank management, fixed assets and financial reporting, implemented, extended in X++, migrated and connected to Customer Engagement by one Solzet team.
Dynamics 365 Finance is Microsoft's financial management application within finance and operations apps, covering general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, cash and bank management, cost accounting, fixed assets, asset leasing and financial reporting. Solzet implements Dynamics 365 Finance for larger and multi-entity organizations: we design the account structure and legal entities with your finance team, configure the modules, migrate opening balances and open items, build X++ extensions only where configuration runs out, and connect Finance to Supply Chain Management, banks and Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement through dual-write. The result is a ledger your controllers trust at month end, documented and supported by the same people who built it.
What does Dynamics 365 Finance cover?
Dynamics 365 Finance is one of the finance and operations apps, alongside Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, Dynamics 365 Commerce and Human Resources capabilities within finance and operations apps. It is the system of record for the money side of a larger organization, and Microsoft documents these areas as part of it:
- General ledger, the account structure and period close.
- Accounts payable, from vendor invoices to payments.
- Accounts receivable, from customer invoices to collections.
- Budgeting, with budgets you can control and report against.
- Cash and bank management, including bank reconciliation.
- Cost accounting, for allocating and analysing costs.
- Fixed assets and asset leasing.
- Financial reporting for management and statutory needs.
Where does project accounting live?
Microsoft documents project management and accounting under Dynamics 365 Project Operations rather than under Finance. If you bill projects, time or milestones, read our Project Operations implementation guide alongside this page: the two are usually designed together.
How does Solzet implement Dynamics 365 Finance?
We start with how your controllers close the month, not with a module list. Discovery maps the legal entities, the chart of accounts, the dimensions the business reports by, intercompany flows, approval rules and the reports that go to the board and the tax authority. From that we write a solution design your finance team can read and sign, then configure Finance in short iterations, each ending with a demo on your own data rather than on a vendor sample company.
New cloud implementation projects for Finance, Supply Chain Management and Project Operations are created in the Power Platform admin center since 16 February 2026, so environment planning and governance start there. We set up the environments, the release process and access early, because a project where everyone tests in one shared environment ends with nobody trusting the results.
- Discovery and design: legal entities, account structure, dimensions, intercompany, approvals, reporting and statutory requirements.
- Build in iterations: configuration, workflows, integrations and the X++ extensions the design really needs.
- Data migration rehearsals with reconciliation reports signed by finance.
- User acceptance testing on real month-end and year-end scenarios.
- Cutover, the first period close with our team in the room, and hypercare.
Is Business Central or Dynamics 365 Finance the right fit?
Both are Microsoft ERP, and both are delivered by Solzet, so the choice should come from your organization rather than from what a consultant happens to sell. Business Central fits small and mid-sized companies that want finance, inventory, projects and light manufacturing in one cloud system. Finance and Operations fits larger organizations with several legal entities, deep supply chain or production needs, or retail operations on Commerce. If the table below points to Business Central, our Business Central implementation page is the better next read.
| Signal | Business Central | Finance and Operations |
|---|---|---|
| Company size | Small and mid-sized organizations | Larger, complex, multi-entity organizations |
| Complexity | Standard finance, inventory, light manufacturing, projects | Deep supply chain, warehouse, production, multi-country finance, Commerce |
| Extension model | AL extensions in Visual Studio Code | X++ in Visual Studio |
| CRM integration | Dataverse connection, virtual tables | Dual-write, virtual entities |
| Typical legacy source | Dynamics NAV, Dynamics GP, 1C | Dynamics AX 2012, AX 2009 |
How is finance data migrated into Dynamics 365 Finance?
Finance data migration is mostly a set of decisions, and only then a set of scripts. We agree with the controllers which balances arrive as opening balances, how much transaction history is migrated and how much stays readable in the old system, how open customer and vendor items are loaded so that payments still match, and how the fixed asset register comes across with cost, depreciation and book values intact.
Every migration is rehearsed at least twice in a sandbox, and each rehearsal ends with reconciliation: trial balance per legal entity, open receivables and payables, bank balances and asset values against the source system. If the source is Dynamics AX, the route depends on the version, and our AX to Finance and Operations upgrade page covers it. Sources outside the Microsoft family, including 1C, are migrated the same way, with mapping tables your finance team signs.
When does Dynamics 365 Finance need X++ extensions?
Less often than people expect. Most finance requirements are met by configuration: posting profiles, workflows, dimensions, approval hierarchies and report design. We write X++ when a requirement is real, stable and impossible to meet with configuration, for example a local statutory report, a specific bank file format, or validation that protects the ledger from bad data arriving through an integration.
Finance and operations development is done in X++ with the Visual Studio extension, and the unified developer experience brings finance and operations and Power Platform developer tools together. Our X++ work is built as extensions, kept in source control and deployed through a pipeline, so Microsoft's regular updates do not turn into a quarterly emergency. Every extension comes with a short note of what it does, why configuration was not enough and who owns it.
How does Dynamics 365 Finance connect to Customer Engagement and other systems?
Finance rarely works alone. Order and stock data comes from Supply Chain Management, which shares the platform. Banks, payroll, tax portals and data warehouses each need an agreed interface with an owner and monitoring. And sales and service teams on Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement need to see credit limits, invoices and payment status without a phone call to accounts receivable.
Dual-write is an out-of-box infrastructure that provides near-real-time, bidirectional integration between customer engagement apps and finance and operations apps through Dataverse, so customer accounts and their financial status stay aligned in both. Where CRM users only need to read finance data, finance and operations apps act as a virtual data source in Dataverse and expose entities as virtual tables without copying them. Solzet builds the Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement side as well, and our CRM and ERP integration page explains how we choose between the two.
Who is this for, and who is it not for?
This service is for organizations with several legal entities, multi-country or multi-currency finance, budget control requirements, or a supply chain that already points to finance and operations apps. Typical buyers are CFOs and group controllers in manufacturing, distribution, retail and financial services, and public bodies that need budgeting and control in the ledger, described on our government page.
It is more system than a single company with standard bookkeeping, a modest number of users and no complex supply chain. Business Central is designed for that organization, and Solzet implements it with the same team. The overview on the Finance and Operations page explains how Finance fits with the other finance and operations apps.
What does Solzet deliver, and how does support work after go-live?
One team carries the project from discovery to the first year-end close: senior consultants for finance process and design, developers for X++, integrations and data migration, and the same people for support afterwards. Already live on Business Central or Finance and Operations? Solzet can audit your existing project and give you a stabilisation plan, through our health check and technical audit.
- A solution design for legal entities, account structure, dimensions, intercompany, approvals and reporting, signed by finance.
- Configured Dynamics 365 Finance environments with a documented release process.
- X++ extensions in source control, each with a purpose note and an owner.

What do buyers ask us?
What modules does Dynamics 365 Finance include?
Microsoft documents general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, cash and bank management, cost accounting, fixed assets, asset leasing and financial reporting as part of Dynamics 365 Finance. Project management and accounting is documented under Dynamics 365 Project Operations.
Does Solzet implement Dynamics 365 Finance?
Yes. Solzet implements Dynamics 365 Business Central and Finance and Operations, alongside Customer Engagement and Power Platform. We handle implementation, extensions in AL and X++, migrations from Dynamics NAV, Dynamics GP, Dynamics AX and 1C, the Business Central Armenian localization, and the integration between your CRM and ERP. Dynamics 365 Finance is delivered by our own consultants and developers.
Where is a new Dynamics 365 Finance cloud project created?
Since 16 February 2026, new cloud implementation projects for Finance, Supply Chain Management and Project Operations are created in the Power Platform admin center instead of Lifecycle Services. We set up the environments and governance there at the start of the project.
Should we choose Business Central or Dynamics 365 Finance?
Business Central fits small and mid-sized companies that want finance, inventory, projects and light manufacturing in one cloud system. Dynamics 365 Finance, as part of finance and operations apps, fits larger organizations with several legal entities, multi-country finance or deep supply chain needs. Solzet implements both and recommends after looking at your entities, processes and growth plans.
Can Dynamics 365 Finance share data with Dynamics 365 Sales?
Yes. Dual-write provides near-real-time, bidirectional integration between customer engagement apps and finance and operations apps through Dataverse, and virtual tables let Sales users read finance data without copying it. Solzet designs both systems and the integration between them.
How much finance history should we migrate?
Usually less than the first instinct suggests. We migrate opening balances, open customer and vendor items and the fixed asset register in full, then agree with your controllers how much transaction history is worth loading and how the rest stays readable for audit. Every rehearsal ends with a reconciliation finance signs.
Can you audit a Dynamics 365 Finance implementation that is already live?
Yes. Solzet can audit your existing project and give you a stabilisation plan: configuration, extensions, integrations, data quality and release process, with findings ranked by risk to the month-end close.
